About Farmers Insurance Hawaii

Our History

Farmers Insurance Hawaii has its roots in Hawaii's history, in the days before Hawaii became a state. Hawaii Insurance Consultants was founded in 1955 for a simple reason: to insure the cars of Hawaii's sugar and pineapple plantation workers, who otherwise would not be able to afford auto insurance.

Building on these relationships, the company began working with local unions, employers and other organizations to introduce insurance savings and value to more than 200 groups in our community. Hawaii Insurance Consultants became AIG Hawaii in 1987 and the largest provider of mass marketed auto insurance in the state; a full service provider of personal and business lines of insurance. As a result of the acquisition of AIG Personal Auto Group, AIG Hawaii became Farmers Insurance Hawaii in 2010.

Today we proudly share a commitment to our community with our parent company Farmers Insurance Exchange and the associated Farmers Group of Companies®, which were started over 90 years ago to provide a quality insurance product at a reasonable price to our nation's farmers.

Farmers Group helps Americans get back where they belong after life's unexpected events, serving more than 15 million customers across our country. The Farmers emblem features a dawn sunburst, representing the source of life-giving energy to things that grow. The shield symbolizes protection. Farmers learned its values from its early farming customers: straightforward, financially conservative, caring for the community, and always ready to help.
